In 'Jesus in Me', Anne Graham Lotz draws on her rich biblical knowledge as well as her personal story-including her recent cancer diagnosis-to help us understand that the Holy Spirit is not a magic genie, a flame of fire, or a vague feeling. He is a Person who prays for us, guides us in our relationships and decisions, comforts us in pain, and stays by our side at all times. Here, Anne explores seven key aspects of the Holy Spirit that will revolutionise how you understand and relate to this vital third Person in the Trinity. As Anne writes, 'One of my deepest, richest joys has been discovering by experience who the Holy Spirit is in every step of my life's journey. Each name that He has been given-Helper, Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor, Counsellor, Strengthener, and Standby -reveals another aspect of His beautiful character and has provoked in me a deep love for the One who is my constant Companion...Jesus in me.' Discover how to better love and rely on the person of the Holy Spirit-and embrace how much He loves you.
I picked up this book with much enthusiasm as it is by an author that I have read before and enjoyed. I started reading it one day in the waiting room at the doctor’s surgery. It begins with different descriptions of the Holy Spirit and continues to look at many different aspects of our understanding of the Holy Spirit, his power and work in our lives. I particularly related to the ‘Advocate’ who would plead my case and the ‘Intercessor’ to work and reconcile differences as this was what I needed on that day. It inspired me to think more about the great power that is available to each one of us that we don’t tap into.
The book is full of biblically based, helpful and encouraging information as well as practical tips for living our lives with the Holy Spirit. Anne is very honest in the way she communicates. She doesn’t say she has got it all sussed but at times it’s easy to feel a little inadequate in your own walk with God. It’s good if you find this encouraging!
It is peppered with real life stories of family life and of others that Anne has encountered. There are many examples of women but also stories of couples and singles of all ages. Anne also describes when her own walk has gone wrong and the forgiveness that she has received, as well as personal struggles throughout her life. It is made up of small chapters that you can dip into with ideas of extra things to think about and pray over.
It’s a book for anyone who is interested in deepening their faith on their walk with God. It encourages you to read the Bible, pray and listen to God and then to act on what you have heard.
A book you may wish to read prompted by the Holy Spirit.
