‘Hark! The Herald Angels Sing’ was originally written as a ‘Hymn for Christmas Day’ by Charles Wesley in 1739 and adapted by George Whitefield twenty years later.

The carol tells the story of the angelic proclamation of Jesus’ birth to the shepherds, as described in the Gospel of Luke, and is a powerful celebration of the incarnation, the reconciliation of humanity to God, and the spiritual healing Christ brings.
