The streets surrounding Jerusalem's glistening new temple were thick with Jews who had returned from the Babylonian exile. They and their families were joined by many non-Jewish Persians - curiosity seekers who wondered what all the commotion was about. Zerubbabel, the Jewish leader who was a descendant of King David, strolled among the merrymakers enjoying the greatest day of his life.
