The first in a series of four films from the award-winning producers of Time Life's The Bible Series is Mary Magdalene. The Bible - Close to Jesus series tells the stories of four of Jesus' closest companions - Mary Magdalene, Thomas the Apostle, Jesus' father, Joseph of Nazareth, and Jesus' betrayer, Judas. Directed by Raffaele Mertes (The Bible Series, Esther), each film focuses on the relationship between Christ and his friends and the events leading to his crucifixion and resurrection. Cast out and disowned by her husband, brutalised by Roman soldiers and searching for love and redemption, Mary Magdalene remains one of the greatest Christian enigmas. This highly engaging film highlights the many sides of one of the most controversial figures among Christ's entourage - the seductress, prostitute, healer and politician who has been a fixture in cinema since the advent of film. Maria Grazia Cucinotta (Solomon, Il Postino, The World is not Enough) stars as Mary Magdalene with Benjamin Sadler, Gottfried John and Danny (son of Anthony) Quinn. Running time 90 minutes.
