Recorded at the Basilica of St. Gregory the Great, Downside Abbey Bath, the largest and finest of the neo-Gothic post-Reformation Catholic Churches in England, on the John Compton extension organ.

The musical term canzona implies work based on song while ‘Symphonic’ refers to the romantic expressive and at times improvisatory style of Karg-Elert. This recording provides a unique opportunity to experience these lyrical and atmospheric works through the diverse tonal capabilities of the Compton organ.
