Stephen Farr performs David Briggs’s Symphony ‘Missa pro defunctis’, a 2003 commission reimagining an abandoned suite by Duruflé  based on the plainsong theme’ and Duruflé’s own virtuosic Suite, Op. 5.

Farr’s performance demonstrates the Blackburn organ’s exceptional versatility and ranges in mood from sombre to lyrical, to brilliant in the exhilarating classic Toccata finale.

Blackburn Cathedral organ: by Gray (1826/31) & Cavaillé-Coll (1875), rebuilt by Walker (1969) restored David Wood (2002).
